If you need a standard disclosure, you'll apply through your employer or another registered body on their behalf. They'll give you either a paper or digital form to complete which they then send back to Disclosure Scotland. You have to be a registered body to apply for standard disclosure. Alternatively, you can use an umbrella body to make your disclosure applications for you.
Organisations can ask for paper forms to return by post. Once the required checks have been made, both you and the registered body who applied for you, will be sent a copy of the standard disclosure certificate. This is paid as part of the application process using one of the payment methods listed in the application form.
You will not get a refund unless Disclosure Scotland has made an error or you have paid for a disclosure for a coronavirus response worker. You should receive your certificate within this time if there are no mistakes or requests for further information. If you already have a standard disclosure but cannot find your certificate and need to know your number you can contact us to ask for this. Your certificate needs to be current. Your employer may not accept a basic disclosure check if it's from the wrong service. For a personal reason If you want a basic disclosure for personal reasons rather than work purposes, apply where you live — Disclosure Scotland this service if you live in Scotland, or the Disclosure and Barring Service if you live in England or Wales.
Apply online Before you start You must do your own basic disclosure application. What you need for your online application You'll need the following information to hand before you start your online application: your address details for the past 5 years your National Insurance number if you have one your passport number if you have a passport — it can be from any country your driving licence number, for either a full or provisional licence if you have a licence your non-UK identity card number if you have one You will also need a credit or debit card to pay online.
If you already have one and apply for a new role, it is up to the new person or organisation whether they'll accept your existing basic disclosure certificate or ask you to get a new one. You do not have to pay for disclosures about coronavirus response workers. This will remain in place until midnight on Friday 25 March You'll need to pay when you apply using a credit or debit card. You're likely to receive your basic disclosure certificate within 14 calendar days, although it might take longer if there are any mistakes or if Disclosure Scotland need to contact you for more information.
